Robert Geiger (holding the café’s first dollar bill) and partner Edward Franklin owned a successful café in Georgia for nearly 15 years before relocating to Florida.
It was there, at a food festival, that they discovered the concept of Spinwiches bread, or the traditional Hungarian street food called Kurtoskalacs also known as Chimney Cakes. Both were instantly inspired to pursue a return to food service after sampling the savory bread.
When they found a small storefront in High Springs, Florida they signed the lease on the spot. The rest, as they say, is history. Spinwiches was officially born on October 7th , 2019, which was a dreary Monday. Visitors from Sarasota, Florida, Jinx and Dave, were delighted to find Spinwiches, and they made opening day quite memorable.
Since then, the Spinwiches’ menu and fanbase have grown. Spinwiches has become a destination place, not only for locals, but for visitors far and wide. Spinwiches strives to provide the very best quality foods, made from scratch daily. Guests often comment that they can taste the difference. Comments like that mean everything!
Traditionally called Kürtöskalács, or Chimney Cakes, our signature bread is based on the official dessert of Hungary. This delectable Hungarian Sweet Bread is freshly baked to order with a crispy crunchy outside and a light fluffy dough inside. They are cylinder shaped with a hollow center, resembling a hot chimney when it comes fresh out of the oven. If you enjoy the taste of churros and doughnuts, then you will absolutely love the deliciousness of a Chimney Cake.

“From the moment I walked into the shop I could instantly tell something about the place was special. It had the feel of a quaint little deli but the smells and my eyes told me different. A local shop had suggested we eat here so I love trying new places, and beyond glad I did. I don’t think I’ve ever eaten spun bread or even heard of it, but all the food you could tell was made with love and care. For those wanting fast food this might not be the place for you, because everyone who has ever eaten delicious food knows all great food takes time, patience and most importantly love and this place is well worth any amount of wait time. The staff was amazingly welcoming and friendly and super nice. The atmosphere was the same as the staff from the inside of the store all the way to the back patio area. The menu might seem small but it’s loaded with flavor! We ordered a chicken salad platter and a pulled pork spin, then the Twix spin and Apple Pie spin for dessert (dulce de Leche was sold out so fair warning get there early). From the first bite to the last my taste buds were having a party, the pork was delicious and I got the coleslaw to go with it, I absolutely love a good slaw to go with my BBQ and this one was just that, not some cheap thrown together mush. The chicken salad was on point with a mix of tastiness and for me when you can eat it without the need for crackers, bread or any extra stuff that’s a good chicken salad and this was. Perfect blend of sweet and seasoned without being too much or not enough. But the ultimate thing for me was dessert, when I tasted how good the actual food was I knew I needed to save room and I’m SOOOO glad I did! The apple pie spin exploded my taste buds at first bite, the cold and apples and whipped cream and cinnamon and marscapone and caramel was insanely good a moan actually escaped my mouth! Then I take a bite of the Twix spin and if you love chocolate you will absolutely love this, i could not get enough of this mousse wrapped chocolate drizzled dessert made from these magical food wizards. This is by far a definite must try if you haven’t and I will be going back soon to try everything else I haven’t yet!”
